BSAPTR PROGRAMS / PROJECTS : YDI

Youth Development Institute (affectionately known as YDI), is an initiative of the Partnership for a Drug-Free Detroit. YDI chapters consist of existing youth organizations that collectively respond to reduce substance abuse through prevention efforts initiated by youth. It is designed to provide youth with an opportunity to directly impact substance-abuse prevention initiatives. The youth acquire the necessary skills and leadership development needed to educate their peers, plan and coordinate peer prevention activities and recommend strategies to reduce teen drug-abuse.

This program is dedicated to promoting prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) among youth. One of the many efforts of YDI include the R.U.D.E. Project, which is Reducing Underage Drinking through Education. YDI received a grant for this project and filmed three commercials about the harmful effect of underage drinking and ways to say no. The program serves youth between the ages of 12 and 18. There are no costs for participating in the program, which is housed at the City of Detroit Department of Health & Wellness Promotion, Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment & Recovery, 1151 Taylor Street Room 347B Detroit, MI 48202. During normal business hours, call Minou Carey, Program Manager at, (313) 876-4353.
