![]() Biographical Sketch for Thomas F. Stallworth, III
A graduate of Michigan State University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning and Development, Tommy developed a passion for maximizing the positive synergies for successful business enterprises, healthy communities, and people needs. As an intern at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Change, he completed extensive research on the effects of the Atlanta desegregation order on student relationships and academic achievement. It was through this experience that he first gained the insight that how you achieve results is equally important as the results achieved, a value he has embraced throughout his professional career. Tommy joined MichCon (Michigan Consolidated Gas Co.) after management level experiences with the Detroit Urban League, A&P Corp., and as an appointee of Mayor Coleman A. Young. During his tenure at Michcon, he made dramatic contributions to changing the corp. culture through the recruitment of numerous minorities and females into the corp. accounting/finance, marketing and engineering organizations. As part of the executive team he successfully led projects to design and implement employee satisfaction as a management accountability measure and established Diversity and EEO Training for all management employees. His proudest accomplishment occurred when he established the Case Management Program as an assistance vehicle for customers unable to pay their bills. The program grew to avg. enrollments of 14,000 /per month and is benchmarked across the industry for its effectiveness. He also successfully led the merger of all customer service operations for Michcon and DTE, including communication and billing systems, union contracts, facilities and employees. Through this experience he developed extensive insight into identifying and capturing synergies to better serve customers and the broader community. Additionally, his community and volunteer activities have included serving on numerous non-profit and community boards and committees including, the Detroit Board of Education (elected), Childrens Aid Society, current Board Officer of the Child Care Coordinating Council, the United Negro College Fund, Fund Raising Committee, The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW), and the New Detroit Quality of Life Task Force. |
