KeepPushin.org is created for young people to begin to think positively about their choices and their lives. Years ago, the late and legendary singer, Curtis Mayfield, wrote and recorded a song called, “Keep on Pushing.” So what’s the connection? Well, “keep pushin” and “keep on pushing” are positive titles. In the song by Mayfield, he encourages people to continue to be strong, to continue to overcome obstacles, to continue to reach for positive goals, and to continue to be someone on a mission for good.

While some, not all, of today’s music is negative, often recorded to degrade and “drain the brain from gain,” there are recording artists right here in Detroit, who are generating powerful and positive music and lyrics to leak inside your ear…and put some “gain back into the brain.”

There’s “TONE TONE,” a young and upcoming artist who wrote the theme song for KeepPushin.org. This is an artist who gets it, who truly understands the power of music and lyrics to either built up or tear down. “TONE TONE” chooses to built up and empower through his musical gift.

There’s K’Jon, who wrote and performs the beautiful and uplifting song “On the Ocean.” This brother is another artist who gets it. He understands that positive music influences people in positive ways. He understands that negative things must change in this city and in the world…and music and positive lyrics must be the vehicles.

There's Deborah Kay, a recording artist with the voice of an angel, who released her debut CD in late 2008. She has dedicated her talent to reaching out and touching those in need of hope, a chance, and inspiration. One of the songs that Deborah sings so beautifully is called, “Love Everlasting.” It’s a song that could be Detroit’s anthem as we try to climb back to respectability, climb back to loving, caring and watching out for each other, and climb back and reclaim the good this city has to offer.

There’s others! Yes…this city is called the Motor City, but this is the city that has given America and the world our best in gospel, R&B, pop, hip-hop and more. We have more positive artists to offer. So let’s find the positive and uplifting artists and their songs that will bring out the best in all of us, and then, let’s share them with our neighbors…let’s share them with the world.
